Ms. Melissa Nichol

Welcome to World Literature!

I hope that each of you had a relaxing and uneventful summer!  I know at our household we were busy trying to pack as much as possible into the very short two months we had away from school. There just never seems to be enough time to get everything done. I am very excited about beginning my first year at Heard County High School and am looking forward to working with you and your child! It’s going to be another fantastic year here at HCHS!

A little about me:

I am a Clayton County Riverdale High School graduate. I then continued my education at Atlanta Christian College (Now Point University in West Point, GA) and graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Middle Grades Education.  I returned to my hometown elementary school, Riverdale, for my first three years of teaching where I worked for my elementary school principal; what an awesome experience that was!

My family and I then relocated to the best place on Earth, Heard County, where I began teaching at Mt. Zion Elementary in Carroll County. While there, I attended the University of West Georgia where I earned a Master’s degree and, soon after, a Specialist degree in Middle Grades Math and Science. After two years at Mt. Zion, I was very fortunate to be hired at Ephesus, just minutes from my home in the Simpson Community. While there, I added my leadership certification to my certificate, and then I spent 13 years teaching all subject areas there. Next, I moved on to teach Language Arts at Heard County Middle School for four years. Now, as I find myself teaching my 23nd year with gifted certification added to my credentials, I consider it a privilege to be at HCHS  this year.

I am very lucky to be raising two daughters, Emily who is a 2018 Heard County graduate and is moving on to further her education at the University of North Georgia, Dahlonega, and Kylie who is a 5th grader, in a small town with wide-open spaces where kids play in the dirt, ride horses and four wheelers, and know how to “fix” machinery. I look forward to working with you and your child this year. Please feel free to contact me via email, school phone, or cell phone if you ever have questions or concerns. After all, we are in this together!

Sincerely,

Ms. Melissa Nichol
