Heard County Names Lasseter as New Football Coach

December 9, 2020

Franklin, GA     The Heard County Board of Education voted unanimously to make Mr. Shane Lasseter the new head football coach at Heard County High School in a called meeting today.  The announcement comes on the heels of the resignation of 19-year head coach, Tim Barron.  Mr. Lasseter has been in the Heard County School System for 16 years.  He spent 13 years in the classroom and has acted as the county athletic director for the past 3 years, and also served as high school athletic director for 5 years.  Mr. Lasseter received a bachelor in science in special education from the University of West Georgia and a Masters and Specialist degree from Liberty University in Teaching and Learning.  Coach Lasseter has served in various athletic coaching positions throughout his career.  He served as the head baseball coach, head wrestling coach, and various varsity football duties since 2003.  Coach Lasseter graduated from Heard County High School in 2000 and has raised a family of four children in Heard County with his wife, Nickie Lasseter.

Superintendent, Rodney Kay, offered these comments, “Mr. Lasseter has been a part of the culture and pride that has been built here over the last 19 years.  He has been a fixture in the athletic program and has earned the trust and respect of his colleagues.  When you are satisfied with the direction and existing culture in a program you look within for a replacement.  That is exactly what we did and we are pleased that at this time the core of the football staff remains intact and we will not skip a beat from a football operations standpoint.  Everyone in Heard County recognizes the loss of Tim Barron.  He was a special man, and the Heard County Brave Nation will be forever grateful for the years he selflessly served this community, but we are also looking forward to the leadership of Coach Lasseter and we feel very strongly about the direction in which he can take the program.”

When asked about the opportunity, Coach Lasseter issued the following statement, “My family and I are so appreciative of this community and school system. The amount of love and support that has been shown to us over the years is something that we value greatly. Although I am sad to be losing a great friend, coach, and mentor from our school system, I am extremely appreciative of everything Coach Barron has done for Heard County and the people in it, especially me.

Heard County is a place that my family and I love; we do not take it for granted nor the great people and work that has made it what it is today.  I am extremely grateful to be given the responsibility of keeping this place special. I am grateful to the Board of Education for valuing the love and work ethic that the current staff has given over the years.  I am thankful to the board for allowing this staff the chance to continue applying the core values of what it means to be a Heard County Brave into every kid in our community.

Humbled is an understatement… To have the chance to run a program that I have loved since I was a little boy.  I am excited for the future opportunity of getting many more students to love, trust, and play--the HC way.”

Coach Lasseter will take over officially Monday, January 4th.
