Lila Harrod has been employed this semester at Brook’s Pharmacy in Carrollton as part of the Work-based Learning program. Lila summarized her experience there as the best and most rewarding high school job she could have had! Her mentor, Pharmacist Brooke Albright says that Lila has learned so much this semester! She recognizes many brand name and generic names for prescription drugs. Lila developed great customer service skills on the job! Thank you Lila for representing HCHS’s WBL program so well!

We celebrated the Hurds today! Jack Hurd is our 2025 STAR Student, and Johnny Hurd is our STAR Teacher. A senior qualifies for STAR Student by making the highest score on the SAT and ranking in the top 10 of the graduating class. Jack chose his dad (our band director) as his most influential teacher. We're so proud of both of them!

Today the Georgia Highway Contract Association, GaDOE, and CW Matthews HEO Program presented Mr. Brian Long, Blalock Eskew, and Colby Stone with banners from their wins in the 2025 HEO State Championship. Blalock Eskew was the Dozer School Champion, while Colby Stone was the Excavator School Champion and placed 2nd in the Excavator State Championship! We are incredibly proud of these young men, and all of their hard work! Mr. Long has been instrumental in building his Heavy Equipment Program so our kids will have opportunities in the construction industry following graduation. In this program, students can earn Bulldozer and Excavator certifications, which helps prepare them for the workforce. Mr. Long is passionate about HEO and we are thrilled to see the great work he’s been doing! We also want to thank Dr. Chris Williams who was instrumental in obtaining the Heavy Equipment Grant which has provided our students with this amazing opportunity! Great job guys!!
